Dear Parents,
We've made it through another week! Hopefully your child is adjusting to our routine and making that transition to spending the whole day at school.

This week there are a few things to be aware of.

Homework Folders
Homework is coming home today. There is spelling, making words, math, and reading books. These items need to be returned on Friday. Homework is a great way to start establishing responsibility with your children--if you can help motivate them to get it done and back on time, it will set up great patterns for them as they continue throughout their life.

With spelling being added, we have sentences we work on each week. My main focus on sentences is to remember capital letters at the beginning, spaces between words, and end marks. I also watch for if your child is spelling their word lists correctly.

Grading System
By now you've probably seen some different grading marks on your children's work. If there is a star or smiley face, that means I've seen the work. It's great! If there is a check mark--this is where you will want to know my code. The students are aware of this and I will be using this on our sentences for spelling later this week.
check ++: means it's perfect (or looks like a 2nd graders work!)
it also means on spelling that your child has written the sentence perfect with no mistakes.
check +: means good job! (just how it should be!)
on spelling, this also means that they remembered everything they needed to
--capitals, spaces, end marks
check: means that they did it, they tried. There is still room for improvement.
check minus: no attempt was made

Color Days
We are finishing up our color days this week. Here's the schedule:
Monday: purple
Tuesday: black and white
Wednesday: brown
Thursday: pink
Friday: rainbow
